New Online Mode Coming to the PSP

ad hoc party
A new mode of online play for the PSP is coming to North America. Called "Ad Hoc Party", this play mode allows PSP owners who also own a PS3 to play games with an ad hoc multiplayer mode online through the PSN network with other PSP and PS3 owners. Ad Hoc Party launched in Japan last year and has been a success.

"The PlayStation brand is synonymous with creating exciting new gameplay experiences that connect and challenge people in ways they never thought possible," says Scott A. Steinberg, the SCEA vice president, of product marketing. "AdhocParty for the PSP system creates an avenue for gamers to connect, strategize, and compete with each other – Gran Turismo is a great example of this. Polyphony Digital developed robust Ad Hoc features within the game, which are now even more accessible through adhocParty. We saw this as a tremendous opportunity to enhance the PSP system's online gaming experience and bring the service to our North American consumers."

Games that will be able to take advantage of this new play mode include Gran Turismo for PSP and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
