The Best PSP Games You've Never Heard Of

The PSP has many great and well-known titles, like God of War: Chains of Olympus, Crisis Core, and Lumines. However, there are also many hidden gems in the PSP game's library that have never gotten the recognition that they deserve. Here are some of the best PSP games that you've probably never heard of.

Class of Heroes:

This challenging dungeon crawler is set at a magical school called Particus Academy. Class of Heroes boasts a great character creation system and Etrian Odyssey style gameplay. This title is grind heavy and definitely isn't for everyone, but fans of classic dungeon based games like Wizardry shouldn't miss it.

GripShift:

This extremely addictive racing game plays more like a platformer than like more popular racing games like Gran Turismo. The game mixes in platform and puzzle elements to every track. Though GripShift won numerous critical awards, it's never caught on with the gamers it was aimed at.

Riviera: The Promised Land:

This terrific remake of the WonderSwan Color and Game Boy Advance games of the same name has gone sadly ignored by many gamers. The game boasts many features that'd be enjoyed by RPG fans, including dating sim elements and multiple endings. Even if you've already played one of the earlier versions, you should still check this out- the game now has full voice acting, remixed music, and a brand new translation.

Dead Head Fred:

Maybe it was the name. Maybe it was the cover. For whatever reason, this fantastic horror themed action-adventure game never managed to find much of an audience. Dead Head Fred boasts a fantastic script- it won an award from the Writers Guild of America- great voice acting, and entertaining zombie-slaying gameplay. It may not look like it'd be your cup a tea, but this fans of action-adventure games should give this game a chance.

Crush:

This amazing puzzle game was an instant hit with critics. It won numerous awards, including PSP game of the month. Sadly, all that accolade didn't count for much, as they game never managed to sell. The unique gameplay will easily hook anyone who does try the game out, and will give players a truly novel gaming experience.

Macross Ace Frontier:

The last game on our list is a bit of a cheat. The reason that so many gamers have never played Macross Ace Frontier is because the game has never been released outside of Japan. Though this shooting game is entirely in Japanese, it's not hard to figure out the game's controls and menu and is easily playable by someone who doesn't understand the language. It has some of the best graphics on the PSP, and a huge variety of mecha. If you're interested in importing this game, you can do so at Play-Asia.com.
